Jan 27 Jan 27 "Staying in the Middle East for Spring Break" by Macalah Pcolar Education Abroad Jordan View fullsize Our first stop of Spring Break was Dubai, UAE! Dubai can be a pretty expensive city, especially for broke college students, but it was definitely a must-see on my list so we decided to stay for only 2 nights and do as much as possible in that 48 hours! We saved money by staying in a hostel and taking advantage of the public transportation! Photo credit: Pcolar, 2020 View fullsize Of course, we couldn’t go to Dubai without going up the Burj Khalifa! Tickets were expensive, so we ended up choosing the Sunrise Tour to save money. We had to be at the building by 5 am BUT the tickets were much cheaper, we got to see the sunrise from top of the tallest building in the world, and we got a complimentary breakfast! We decided to go at night so we could see it all lit up! While a lot of things were similar to Jordan, it was fun to compare and contrast the two countries and it was so fun to learn more about the Arabic dialect and culture in the Gulf region! We split our time between Muscat and Sur, and took a few day trips to go hiking. Since there was hardly any public transportation, we practiced a lot of Arabic trying to navigate our way around in taxis! It’s also home to one of the most important Turtle Nesting Reservations in the world! While it wasn’t the right season to see the turtles, we did have a fun day at the beach!
