"Jordanian Snow Day" by Ben Schmida

"Jordanian Snow Day" by Ben Schmida

On January 27, 2022, the city of Amman was blanketed with a thick layer of snow. The snow was a mixed blessing, for many especially for young children the snow was a welcome surprise, a day of winter wonderland. For others the snow was detrimental to daily life, many people in the city face power outages, fallen trees often damaged cars and other property, and the low temperatures threatened those without the financial means to heat their homes regularly. This duality played out in the streets as children and some adults frolicked in the winter weather. Building snowmen, throwing snowballs, making snow angels, and sledding, all the while city maintenance crews assessed and attempted to mend the damage done the previous night. That day I went out equipped with my camera and shot the activities of the city.
