"Reflections in El Jedida, Part I" by Noor Traina
After leaving the Mazagan hotel where my friend Elise and I celebrated the end of the semester and our college careers (!!) we went to the city of El Jadida. Its Portuguese history and architecture were unique when compared to the rest of Morocco. We spent most of our time in this cafe writing, reflecting, talking, listening to music, drinking tea and enjoying the view. It's important to take the time to do this while studying abroad!
Elise has kept me sane throughout these past few months. I've made so much more meaning out of my time in Morocco because of her curiosity, critical mind, caring spirit and empathy.
She's always asking questions that force me to dig deeper, offering a hand to help and giving me the best hugs. Look at that smile! It says it all. I can't stress how important it is to find those that fill you with warmth and encourage you to grow while abroad.
