“Hitting the Books: My Favorite Cafes for Studying” by Juliana Cosenza
Adjusting one’s studying habits can be a difficult transition when living abroad. The change of location can easily throw off your study schedule, allowing yourself to seem less productive and on top of your school work. It is a common reality, and I am sure anyone else in my place would rather explore Amman than do hours of homework, so I cannot blame myself for getting easily distracted. Amman is beautiful, and I should explore it as much as I can while I’m here, but I want to make sure that my assignments are completed before hanging out with friends, trying a new café, getting a drink, etc.
At the beginning of the semester, I organized my schedule on my laptop’s calendar. I found it helpful to look at a layout of my week, which allowed me to divide my time between going to the gym, class, my internship, and any cultural events. From this, I began to see what times I was available to dedicate to homework and getting assignments out of the way. As a person who likes to plan, I like to make daily to-do lists with all my homework assignments and daily goals. It definitely makes me feel not only productive but also accomplished when I check different items off my list. Additionally, since I am a junior, I have incorporated applying for internships and studying for the LSAT in my daily routine. Overall, I have felt so much more productive after implementing this healthy schedule into my daily routine.
Furthermore, I feel even more productive when I am in a good environment. One of my favorite parts about Amman are all the small, cozy, and quiet cafes that are also great study spaces. Although there are many more cafes I still have to explore, here are some of my favorites! Additionally, as a coffee lover, I have added my recommendations and opinions of various food and drinks at these cafes.
