Tell us about yourself!
I am part Syrian and part Russian. But I lived in Syria for ten years before coming to Dubai. When the conflict started in Syria, my parents were looking for options and the best one was Dubai because it is an Arab country which easily facilitated the transition especially for me and my sister as we were kids at the time. Another reason why we chose Dubai was because of the advancements and ease of life provided here. I speak Arabic and English fluently, and I can also understand and speak Russian and French (whatever I remember from school).

Why did you choose AUD?
I decided to join AUD for multiple reasons. First, the university offers the major that I wanted to apply for and it is accredited. Also, its location is very convenient, and there are many options for scholarship opportunities. It has been really fun even during the pandemic. The professors adapted to online classes very well which made the transition easy and smooth. For the fun part, AUD students organize many interesting events that you can join meet new people and take some time off the stress.

What are your favorite classes so far at AUD?
I really enjoyed all the classes taught for my major. Each studio is unique and brings out a different skill in you. I liked history of interior design as you get to learn about all the design periods, and I have fun with the software courses.

What opportunities outside the classroom have you had at AUD?
During my first year, I mostly joined clubs and went to their events to see how things go. During my second year, I created two clubs, the Russian and Music Clubs, and became the Vice President of Crate Club and the PR officer in the Student Government Association. This year, I still have the same positions for the clubs and became the treasurer of the SGA (Student Government Association).

What are your favorite spots on campus to study?
Personally, I like studying at home because I get easily distracted a lot by people talking and passing. But, when I just need to finish an assignment or a project or even just take a break, I love sitting on the benches outside which are surrounded by trees behind the Admin Building.

What are your favorite local food or restaurants in Dubai?
I am a big sugar addict and mostly go out for dessert, so I would say my favorite places for that are Parker’s, Freez, and Catch 22.

Are there any must download apps for living in Dubai?
You can use Google Maps to check out timings for public transportation. But if you would like to get more accurate information, download the S’hail app. I would also recommend downloading Zomato which is a food delivery app and you can check out all the restaurants in Dubai and their menus if you want to go out and dine.

What are three must-do things in Dubai?
Go biking at the Dubai Canal, go to the beach, and go to Ski Dubai.

What are three must-see places in Dubai?
The Dubai Mall, Motiongate, and Atlantis.

Any other suggestions for a new comer in Dubai?
Try to manage your time well so you can go out and enjoy Dubai, and don’t worry, Dubai never sleeps!

Tell us about yourself!
My family moved to Dubai from Pakistan. I speak Urdu and English.

Why did you choose AUD?
AUD has so much diversity and a lovely campus. The professors are caring and I love the environment. My experience has been wonderful. Sadly, the Covid-19 Pandemic interrupted much but I am excited to be back on campus.

What are your favorite classes so far at AUD?
My favorite class was Sensation and Perception last semester and all the professors I have had until now are truly the best.

What opportunities outside the classroom have you had at AUD?
I have not done much because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, when I was on campus I attended some events hosted by the Pakistani Student Club.

What are your favorite spots on campus to study?
I love sitting on the benches under the trees and working on my assignments.

What surprised you the most about studying at AUD or living in Dubai?
I was not sure what to expect when studying in Dubai. I did not know how diverse the students would be and the number of opportunities being given to students by AUD.

What are your favorite local food or restaurants in Dubai?
I love Allo Beirut. The food is absolutely delicious. If you love sushi, Miyabi is an amazing restaurant, too.

Are there any must download apps living in Dubai?
I have the RTA app downloaded for easy Metro use. All the food delivery apps of course!

3D Blacklight Mini Golf, the Green Planet, the Old Spice Souk

Any other suggestions for a new comer in Dubai?
Try to explore as much as you can! There is so much to see. I have been here for 2 years and there are still so many places I have yet to visit. Dubai is a perfect place for young people so take advantage of your time here! There is something for everyone!
