"Podcasts: A Possible Way to Learn About a New Culture and Language" by Rana Shihabi
Since I started working with Amideast/Jordan as the Ed Abroad Programs Coordinator, many students from different programs have asked me about the best ways to learn the language and the culture. For me, learning a certain culture or language is done best by watching their TV shows, listening to their songs, and in this case, listening to podcasts.
In this blog, I will put together some of my favorite podcasts in Arabic, mostly Standard Arabic, that I find interesting as well as enriching. The genres of these podcasts vary as the list goes on:
1. Podcast Lahtha | لحظة
Lahtha is a podcast that narrates historical events which shaped the modern world we live in. The podcast tells the stories of historical events from all over the world, which will be an opportunity to listen to these events from a different point of view.
2. Podcast Rumooz | رموز
Rumooz is a podcast that narrates the stories of key figures who left an impact in the field of politics, arts, technology, culture, etc… Some of these figures are unforgettable figures in the Middle East, which will allow you to learn about them.
3. Podcast Ya Rayeh | يا رايح
As we live in a world where Arab immigrants are fleeing from their home, and it became the new normal to the modern world, this podcast narrates the journeys of Arab immigrants from different countries and allows you to hear their story from their side.
The list of great podcasts can go on and on. However, I consider these podcasts entertaining and enriching personally, and that might be a motivation for you to look up some other great podcasts streamed in Arabic.
