"The Top Places I Visited in Jordan" by Honor Johnson
Amman Citadel
The first place I visited during my month stay in Jordan was the Amman Citadel. Pictured is the Temple of Hercules. I was surprised how tall the columns were and it was cool to see the hand of Hercules. From the Citadel you can see a nice view of Amman and there is also a historical museum on the site with ancient artifacts and statues.
Roman Theater
Next, I visited the Roman Theater, which is also located in Amman and walking distance from the Citadel. The Roman Theater was beautiful, and it is a must-see site. Also located at the theater are museums with ancient clothing, murals, and displays of ancient society.
Rainbow Street
I spent most of my time after Arabic classes on Rainbow Street. There are many cafes to study at and many restaurants of various cuisines. There are also shops where you can buy souvenirs and other tiny trinkets. The rainbow decorations and music constantly playing from nearby shops make the street lively. It was definitely one of my favorite places to go to in Amman.
Wadi Mujib
Another place I went to in Jordan was Wadi Mujib. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take any photos because the hiking trail was really wet, and we were told not to bring our phones or cameras. Wadi Mujib is around an hour and a half drive from Amman. It has various hikes to choose from and I went on the Siq trail. It was both an exciting and challenging hike through currents and up rocks using ropes. Some points on the trail were deep enough where you could swim and there was a nice pool and waterfall at the end where you could jump/dive into the water. If you love a good adventure go to Wadi Mujib.
Jerash
Wadi Rum
Last but not least, I visited Wadi Rum, which is around a four-hour drive from Amman. Wadi Rum was really beautiful, and I went on a jeep tour and enjoyed the sunset and sunrise on the desert. I stayed overnight in a tent and was able to stargaze once the sun set. The whole time I was in Wadi Rum felt surreal. It almost felt as if I was on a movie set. Fun fact, The Martian and some Star Wars scenes were filmed in Wadi Rum!
