"A Trip of Firsts" by Lauren Ross
Ahlan! My name is Lauren Ross, and I am a rising Junior at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am majoring in Global Studies with a concentration in Global Security and a minor in Arabic. I am so excited to embark on this new journey in Rabat, Morocco on the Intensive Arabic Summer Program and I cannot wait to meet everyone!
I have traveled to France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Botswana, the Bahamas, and many more amazing places alongside my family and friends. But this will be my first time studying abroad, and my first time traveling alone for an entire month. I know there will be ups and downs and even some challenges, but I am sure that I will get through it all with my new friends.
Some of my hobbies include binging Netflix and Hulu shows, cooking, and as of recent art! I took a required Drawing class my freshman year of college and have enjoyed it ever since. I know Morocco is known for its art in the form of weaving, mosaics, pottery, and paintings. While in Morocco last year, my mother befriended many local artists, one of whom did portraits of my entire family. I hope to partake in an art class and learn from a local artist while I am there.
I am super excited to learn more Arabic and explore the beautiful country of Morocco. I cannot wait to land on this new adventure!
