Scheduling
All synchronous (live) sessions of courses will be held between Monday and Friday, likely between 11:30 am Eastern time/8:30 am Pacific time and 6:00 pm Eastern time/3:00 pm Pacific time. Attendance in synchronous (live) sessions is mandatory and factored into the course grade.
The 3-credit courses will have one 100-minute synchronous (live) session weekly.
The 8-credit Arabic course will have two 2.5-hour synchronous sessions weekly.
Please note that this list is not final for Fall 2021. Further, we reserve the right to cancel any area studies course due to low enrollment.
Course Options
The 8-credit blended Arabic will feature a combination of Modern Standard and Colloquial Arabic.
All levels of Arabic will be available: 101, 102, 201, 202, 301, 302 and 401.

This 3-credit Colloquial Arabic course offers the option of either Colloquial Moroccan or Jordanian Arabic. Courses will be taught with staff who are native speakers of the respective dialects.

These 3-credit Media Arabic courses are designed to help students read news items in different newspapers from Arab countries, listen to and understand news, and understand the role of media in shaping Arab thought.
This course aims at strengthening and deepening students’ knowledge of the Middle East through direct experience in local organizations and a series of lectures.
This course is an overview of Maghrebi politics with a focus on the political dynamics and systems of post-independence Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania. It begins with the historical background and moves to the conditions that shape modern Maghrebi states.

This course will introduce students to the study of traditional Islamic art in two dimensions: the basic concepts of sacred geometry and a practical art project. This course is hands on and taught from Jordan!

This course studies present-day youth involvement in social movements through the lens of social movement theory and youth studies. It focuses on youth activism and on youth policies in the post Spring Era in Morocco and in the MENA region.
